Summer Character Intensive w/ Andy Assaf

This class is designed for performers who want to generate ideas more freely, strengthen their joke writing, and bring characters to life in improv scenes without getting stuck in overthinking.

SATURDAY JULY 25 / 12PM-2PM

Are you involved in improv and intrigued by the prospect of hosting? This one-day, two hour workshop will focus on simple methods, but with an emphasis on fine tuning stage presence, speaking ability, confidence, preparation and how to discover your own unique voice as a host.

WEDNESDAYS / 7PM-9PM / July 8 - 29 w/Brent Skagford

How can we find that spark that makes our scenes ignite? Why do some scenes burn bright while others burn out?

In this four week course, we'll explore how we can identify and exploit the incendiary potential of any given scene.

MONDAYS / 7PM-9PM / July 6 - 27 w/Kyla Margaret

Our behaviour—how we act, how we react, and how we interact with others and our environment—is at the heart of any improv scene. The goal of this class is to become more helpfully aware of our behaviour, and then to use that awareness to develop our characters, make strong choices, and move stories forward.

Peabody Award winning and 4-time Emmy nominated writer and producer, Rich shares insights from working years in late night TV (SNL, MADtv, Key & Peele, The Tonight Show) and from his experiences having co-written five resident company shows for The Second City in Chicago. Students will learn joke structures, blackouts, runners, desk pieces, brainstorming and pitching techniques a variety of comedy devices and sketch types (Character Pieces, Satire/Parody, Slice of Life Scenes, Scenes From Real Life Experience), as well as sketch formatting and screenplay software will be introduced. Students will also learn how to come up with endings and how to contribute to others’ ideas and pitches, valuable writer's room skills.

SUNDAYS / APRIL 26 - June 7 w/Monika Schneider

Besides work on foundational skills such as improvisation and emotional range, the class will also explore concepts and exercises (including Meisner & Stanislavski) as well as scene work.

MONDAYS / 7-9PM / April 27 - June 1 w/ Danielle Davidson

In this intermediate-advanced 6-week class series, we'll explore open score practices and improvisational exercises based on methodologies from Laban, Viewpoints, Meisner and Stanislavski - a class blending improv, movement and theatre !

THURSDAYS / 6:30PM / 90 MINS

All levels welcome, from beginners to experienced players. Includes free entry to the Every Thursday Improv Show (same day).

YOUTH IMPROV / FALL - WINTER SESSION / THURDAYS 4:30pm - 6:00pm

Specifically designed for children (ages 7-14), these classes use fun, classic exercises, and games that teach kids important skills such as group awareness, character work, emotional representation, and scene work.
